Ascent of Volcán Tromen

Volcán Tromen, standing at 3,978 metres, is located in northern Neuquén, within Parque Provincial Tromen, a nature reserve that protects an important flamingo colony and a high-Andean steppe ecosystem. The ascent begins at the base of the volcano, accessible from the town of Chos Malal. The route crosses steppe landscapes, lava fields and volcanic scree, gaining altitude gradually. There are no major technical difficulties, though the altitude and Patagonian winds can be demanding. It is an excellent option as preparation for higher mountains, or as a goal for mountaineers seeking a climb in a rarely visited setting. The summit offers sweeping views over the Neuquén steppe, the Cordillera del Viento and Volcán Domuyo on the horizon.
