About the experience

One of the most active volcanoes in South America.

Volcán Villarrica, rising 2,847 metres above sea level, is one of the most active volcanoes in South America and an icon of southern Chile. Located right next to the town of Pucón, it offers a spectacular climb that combines snow, ice and the thrill of peering into a permanently active crater. The standard route starts from the ski centre and ascends snow-covered slopes that require crampons and an ice axe. At the summit, the smoking crater with its visible lava lake is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. The descent is partly done by sliding down snow channels, adding an extra dose of fun to the day. It is a physically demanding ascent but without major technical difficulties — perfect for an intense day of volcanic mountaineering.
