About the experience
A 90-minute boat trip across the Golfo Nuevo to watch southern right whales in Península Valdés, home to the world's largest concentration of this species. Bilingual crew and environmental interpreters explain the coastal and marine ecosystem, mating behaviour, births, and calf rearing.
This whale watching excursion departs from Puerto Pirámides, 97 km from Puerto Madryn, and sails the Golfo Nuevo — one of the world's finest settings for observing southern right whales. In spring, you can spot juveniles, mothers with calves, and solitary adults.
The bilingual crew and staff (Spanish and English) interpret the coastal and marine ecosystem throughout the entire voyage.
Options and variants:
- Classic whale watching: the standard outing to see whales and calves
- Last departure of the day: a sunset sailing, ideal for photographers or those looking to avoid busy hours
- Special departures: private or tailor-made excursions (photography groups, families, honeymoons)
Fleet: Mimosa IV (two decks, latest generation), Mimosa III (spacious deck, classic whale watching), Mimosa II (special and private departures), and the rigid inflatable Iris for small groups.
Season: June to 15 December, with daily departures during peak season, subject to the whales' continued presence in the gulf. Guests must check in at the Puerto Pirámides pre-boarding office one hour before departure.
