About the experience
The secrets of the island's heartland: tea at Estancia Rolito, trekking to the Cabo San Pablo lighthouse, the mysterious shipwrecked Desdémona, and a fresh-catch lunch at a local fishermen's home.
Every land holds its own secrets: a lighthouse on a lonely cape, a mysterious ship run aground 40 years ago, and a distinguished old estancia reveal the untold stories of Tierra del Fuego.
Very early in the morning, the journey departs from Ushuaia along Ruta Nacional 3, crossing the Andes through Paso Garibaldi at 450 metres above sea level. After about 60 km, Lago Escondido appears between towering rocky walls, and the landscape gradually shifts from forest to the steppe of the island's north — a region renowned for raising some of the world's finest lamb.
Along Ruta Provincial A, a gravel road, the tour visits Estancia Rolito, a pioneer of rural tourism in Tierra del Fuego that preserves the spirit of a family business rooted in sheep-farming tradition. There, hosts Ani, Pepe and their family welcome guests to a break with tea, homemade cakes, biscuits and jams.
The journey then continues toward the Atlantic Ocean and Cabo San Pablo: a trek leads up to the abandoned lighthouse, from where the Desdémona — a ship that ran aground nearly 40 years ago — can be seen in all its mystery. After exploring this enigmatic giant, the group visits local fishermen Silvia and Miguel, who have worked the waters since 1991 and invite guests to a home-cooked lunch of fresh-caught fish.
