The trek to Arroyo Turquesa and El Leoncito is a 4-day experience in the San Juan Andes combining high-altitude hiking—16 km reaching over 4,000 m above sea level with views of the Caballito glacier—stargazing at CASLEO, land sailing on the Pampa del Leoncito, and a geological walk through the Cerro de los Siete Colores. The adventure takes place in Parque Nacional El Leoncito, near Barreal, San Juan, during spring and summer. The experience is organized by Centinela Explora and includes a professional mountain guide, transfers at destination, and two nights of camping.

About the experience

Two nights in the mountains on a 16 km trek climbing to this incredible stream at 4,000 m above sea level

📅 Day 1 – Laguna Blanca

• Meet at noon at San Juan airport and have lunch

• 4x4 drive up into the Andes

• Acclimatization and overnight at camp facing the lagoon

📅 Day 2 – Arroyo Turquesa

• Trek to the headwaters of the stream, with views of the Caballito glacier

• 16 km round trip, reaching over 4,000 m above sea level

• Asado dinner and overnight at camp

📅 Day 3 – Barreal, Pampa del Leoncito and CASLEO

• Free time at the lodge and its swimming pool

• Land sailing on the Pampa del Leoncito

• Telescope stargazing at CASLEO, on the eve of a new moon

📅 Day 4 – Cerro de los Siete Colores

• Interpretive walk with a geologist

• Return to the city of San Juan
