About the experience
A demanding 17 km traverse from Reserva Natural Los Hornillos to the natural balcony of Cerro La Ventana, at 2,340 m above sea level, through mountain flora, tabaquillo forests and soaring condors.
The name of this mountain says it all: at the summit, a natural balcony opens up with a breathtaking view over the Valle de Traslasierra.
The classic trail to La Ventana begins at Reserva Natural Los Hornillos, where the native mountain flora changes with every step: molle, orco quebracho, coco, piquillín, moradillo and aromitas. A wide variety of birds greet you along the way with their songs, from thrushes to the magnificent Andean condor.
The summit sits at around 2,340 m above sea level. For most of the route the trail is marked and signposted; while it can be done self-guided, the terrain and physical demands make it strongly advisable to go with a licensed operator. Along the way there are notable landmarks to visit: Piedra Encajada, the Los Ramblones refuge and the tabaquillo forest.
