About the experience
In the Cordillera Frontal of Mendoza. A classic mountaineering objective.
Cerro El Plata, nestled in the Cordillera Frontal of Mendoza about 90 km from the provincial capital, is one of the most accessible six-thousanders in the Andes and a classic of Argentine mountaineering. The expedition sets off from Vallecitos, at 2,900 m above sea level, and climbs progressively through high-altitude valleys, scree fields and permanent snowfields. Camps are established at different altitudes to ensure proper acclimatization: Casa de Piedra, Salto de Agua and the high camp. The final stretches of the ascent require crampons and ice axe, crossing glacial terrain with sustained slopes. The summit at 6,000 metres offers an extraordinary panoramic view of the Cordillera de los Andes, with sightlines to Aconcagua and the surrounding peaks. This is an ideal expedition as preparation for higher mountains, or as a goal in its own right for those seeking a true high-altitude experience.
