About the experience
Three days of 4x4 adventure across Tierra del Fuego: Lagos Escondido and Fagnano, canoeing, a traditional fueguino asado, Estancia Rolito, the Cabo San Pablo lighthouse, the Desdémona shipwreck, and a gastronomic experience on the Beagle Channel.
A 3-day experience exploring much of the island by 4x4, featuring a shipwreck, a legendary estancia, and fueguino cuisine at every turn. Available in summer season (October 1 to April 30), private tours only.
Day 1
Departure from Ushuaia toward the heart of the island, to the area of Lagos Escondido and Fagnano, with an intense 4x4 drive. Then, a traditional asado of fueguino beef grilled over lenga and guindo wood embers at a mountain refuge on the shores of Lago Escondido, paired with a Patagonian malbec. In the afternoon, a canoe trip on the lake (subject to weather conditions) and transfer to Tolhuin to spend the night at Hostería Kaiken, with dinner overlooking Lago Fagnano.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hostería and a journey north across the island along Ruta Provincial A, a gravel inter-estancia road, to visit Estancia Rolito, a pioneer of rural tourism in Tierra del Fuego, where hosts welcome you with tea and homemade cakes. Later, trekking along guanaco trails to the top of Cabo San Pablo and its lighthouse built in 1945, a visit to the Desdémona (a ship that ran aground in 1985), and lunch in a small fishing village. Return to Hostería Kaiken for dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Breakfast and return via Ruta 3 to Ruta J, a gravel road winding through dense native forest. At Bahía Brown, discover the famous flag trees, then continue to Puerto Almanza, the main port of artisanal fishermen. The journey ends with a gastronomic experience at Diana's home — the only female captain on the Beagle Channel — cooking and tasting the flavors of the Beagle. After lunch, return to Ushuaia.
