Canal Beagle, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina
Beagle Channel Cruise is a sailing, wildlife watching, birdwatching and hiking experience on the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, available year-round. Offered by Tierra Turismo, a member operator of the Asociación Argentina de Ecoturismo y Turismo Aventura (AAETAV). Includes Spanish/English guides and an on-board snack (tea, hot chocolate, coffee with liqueur, biscuits).
About the experience
Small-group yacht cruise: sea lions at Isla Alicia, cormorants at Isla de los Pájaros, the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, and a landing on Isla Bridges with a Yámana interpretive trail.
Depart from the local harbour aboard a yacht with a small group of passengers, heading to Isla Alicia, where a colony of South American sea lions can be observed. Then set course for Isla de los Pájaros, home to colonies of rock and imperial cormorants nesting alongside their chicks, visible from spring through autumn.
Heading east, the route passes a small island where, depending on the season, South American fur seals can be spotted. Nearby stands the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, a true symbol of Ushuaia built in 1919, from which a colony of rock cormorants can be seen on a neighbouring island.
On the return leg, passengers land on Isla Bridges to walk an interpretive trail exploring the local flora and birdlife and to learn about the history of the Yámana indigenous people. The island is home to the largest anthropogenic shell middens in the region. From its highest viewpoint, the full magnificence of the Beagle Channel unfolds, with the city of Ushuaia visible in the distance.
Tea, hot chocolate, coffee with liqueur and biscuits are served during the voyage.
